The Hexagon StereoScan neo Optical 3D Measurement System is a cutting-edge, non-contact solution for high-speed, full-field 3D digitization and inspection. Utilizing the principle of stereo photogrammetry with blue light fringe projection, it captures the complete surface geometry of an object in seconds, generating a dense and accurate point cloud or polygon mesh. It is designed for applications requiring detailed surface analysis, reverse engineering, first-article inspection, and digital archiving of complex, free-form, or delicate parts.

The system consists of a high-resolution, stereoscopic camera pair and a precision-grade pattern projector, all housed in a rigid, temperature-stable frame. During measurement, the projector casts a series of coded fringe patterns onto the object's surface. The two cameras, viewing from slightly different angles, simultaneously capture the distortion of these patterns. Sophisticated software algorithms then triangulate the correspondences between the two camera views for each pixel, calculating its 3D coordinates with high accuracy. The use of blue LED light provides excellent stability and reduces sensitivity to ambient shop-floor light.

The "neo" generation emphasizes speed, ease of use, and intelligence. Measurement cycles are incredibly fast, making it suitable for high-throughput inspection or capturing dynamic processes. It features advanced automatic processing and on-the-fly data quality assessment. The system often includes integrated photogrammetry (using coded markers) to measure larger objects by combining multiple scans from different angles into a single, unified coordinate system without the need for traditional alignment fixtures.

The resulting data is a "digital twin" of the physical part. This can be directly compared to the original CAD model within software like Geomagic Control X, generating comprehensive color-map deviation reports, cross-sections, and GD&T analyses. For reverse engineering, the mesh can be processed into CAD-ready surfaces.

The StereoScan neo is invaluable in industries where form, aesthetics, and complex surfaces are critical. It is widely used in automotive design (clay models, styling parts), aerospace (composite panels, turbine blades), consumer goods (appliances, electronics), medical devices (implants, prosthetics), and cultural heritage preservation. It provides a complete, accurate, and digital record of an object's as-built state, enabling deeper analysis and faster decision-making than traditional point-by-point methods.
