The Hexagon TORO HP Cantilever-type Coordinate Measuring Machine offers a unique and highly ergonomic solution for measuring medium to very large, heavy workpieces. Its distinctive single-arm (cantilever) design provides unparalleled accessibility from three sides of the machine table, making it ideally suited for measuring parts that are cumbersome, require frequent fixturing changes, or need manual interaction during the measurement process, such as large molds, dies, automotive body panels, and welded assemblies.

The TORO HP's structure features a rigid vertical column that moves in the Y-direction along the rear of the granite table. A horizontal arm (the cantilever) extends from this column, carrying the Z-axis ram and the measuring probe. This configuration leaves the front and two sides of the table completely open, allowing cranes, forklifts, or personnel easy access to load and position massive parts. Despite the overhung design, the "HP" (High Performance) designation signifies engineering advancements that ensure high stiffness and dynamic stability. This is achieved through optimized counter-balancing systems, high-rigidity arm construction, and precision guideways, which collectively minimize deflection and vibration during probing.

It is equipped with high-accuracy air bearings on all axes and driven by servo motors with precision scales. The machine can be fitted with a range of sensors, from robust touch-trigger probes for standard feature inspection to long-range laser line scanners for capturing full-field surface data of large panels or composites. The intuitive operating software allows for efficient programming, both online and offline.

Operators can easily walk up to the part to place reference targets, check fixtures, or perform tactile checks in conjunction with the CMM's automated routine.
